Food choice becomes an important part of Arthritis Patients. What a person eats determines not only the health part but also determines the way he/she is tackling arthritis.
The food we eat is measured in calories. For people suffering from arthritis it becomes a virtual necessity that they do not lose out on vitamins and minerals. So, it is important to eat foods that are:
- high in vitamins and minerals
- low in calories, such as fruit and vegetables
Here are some more tips:
- It is healthy to eat starchy foods like bread, potatoes, rice, and pasta. They have no more calories than protein
- Wholemeal versions of these starchy foods are better as they are more filling because they are high in fibre, and often supply more vitamins and minerals – for example, wholemeal bread, brown rice, wholegrain breakfast cereals
Dietary Guidelines for Arthritis Patients
- Eat a balanced and varied diet to maximize your intake of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients
- Eat a diet that is high in fiber and that is not tainted with chemicals, which stress the body. Maximize the intake of fresh vegetables, fruits, fish, nuts, seeds, and whole grains
- Make sure the food platter includes cold-water fish such as salmon and halibut!
- Avoid saturated fats, hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, rich fatty food, fried food, and refined sugar. These substances make the internal environment more acidic. Acid in the joints promotes inflammation, which worsens symptoms and increases pain
- Fatty meats, eggs, margarine, shortening, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, sugars and dairy products should be dramatically cut down or eliminated from the diet
- Avoid foods that might cause problems. About one-third of those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis are sensitive to solanines, or nightshade plants, which include potatoes, peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, and tobacco.
- Drink at least six to eight glasses of pure water daily. This helps to flush out toxins from the body
- Exercise regularly
Tips For Arthritis Patients to Loose Weight
- Fat has twice as many calories as the same weight of starch or protein. Most people eat far more fat than they need for health. Eating 30 g (about 1 oz) less fat each day saves 270 calories. So cutting calories does not require massive sacrifices. Making minor changes to the food you eat can be enough.
Eat Foods that burn fat
- Green vegetables, such as watercress, parsley, celery, kale, and okra
- Carrots
- Potassium Broth
- Whole grains, such as brown rice, millet, oats, wheat, and barley
- Cold-water fish such as salmon, sardines, or herring
Foods That Alleviate Arthritis Pain
Listed below are some foods that fight against arthritis:
- Ginger
- Olive oil
- Cinnamon
- Orange
- Whole wheat
- Rye, etc.
Foods that Cure Psoriatic Arthritis

Foods to Avoid

Calcium Inhibitors
- Alcohol
- Coffee
- Refined sugar and too many sweets
- Reduce or eliminate red meat, dairy, eggs, and chicken

I can sympathise with you fully. I have arthritis in most of my joints and have had two shoulder operations and two knee operations. I recently visited Jan de Vries in Scotland (well known for successes in his field of alternative medicine). Three main things he told me to cut out were – all citrus, chocolate and any form of pork. I take a mixed teaspoon of cinnamon and honey every morning either as a drink or on toast (if I can’t face the drink). I also am convinced that the digestive system plays a big part in arthritic pain and it’s essential to keep the bowels moving! Mine is worse at the moment as it’s the onset of menopause. Try Yoga also – this really does help. There are many sites and books on Yoga that specify exercises for arthritis and digestion. Add ginger, cinnamon, cumin and turmeric to your stews, soups, etc.
I have other suggestions re foods if you want any more info.

Hello!
Our family was poisoned by pesticides over an eight year period which resulted in numerous health problems in all five family members. We experienced many of the same symptoms people experience with food allergies. As we learned more about what happened to us, and how to get well, we discovered eating organic food made a huge difference in our health. We regained our health by eating a strict organic diet and avoiding everyday chemicals like pesticides, cleaning compounds, air fresheners, fabric softeners, disinfectants, sanitizers, and more.
After a long period of time, I started to understand that the additives, and other toxic residue in food from the growing process, is what we were reacting to, and not the actual food. It is interesting to me that we didn’t react to organic peanut butter whereas we did react to non-organic peanut butter. No one in our family has life-threatening peanut allergies, but we did react to non-organic peanut butter with rashes, itching, minor breathing difficulty, and more. I encourage anyone with food allergies to try eating a strict organic diet. For anyone allergic to peanuts, I don’t recommend even organic peanuts including organic peanut butter; however, for those who can eat peanuts, organic peanuts and peanut butter are significantly better health-wise.
I thought I would pass on our experience in the hope that it would help someone.

The universal rate of success of these weight loss platforms which are incessantly contending with each other is more or less the identical. And the most funny part is that these programs all expire at the comparable hurdle in cattiness of working really tall necessitates. This occurs because the consistency gets accustomed to the grimness through which it is position and corrects itself to the new routine and the metabolic process slows down. You have to be smarter than nature to be able to deception the body into mislaying weight. Without pursuit this measure then you will always inquire why you cannot turn a loss weight unit.
