Ankle
The ankle is that part of the human body where the leg and foot meet with each other. It is a joint which connects the leg and foot. It is also known as talocrural joint.
Ankle Joint Pain
The ankle joint consists of three important lateral ligaments. They are:
- The anterior talofibular ligament
- The posterior talofibular ligament
- The calcaneofibular ligament
Pain happens in the ankle joint when any of the above said ligaments are injured or damaged. The ankle pain will also happen in the case of irregularities in the two normal directions named as plantar flexion and dorsiflexion.
Dealing with Ankle Joint Pain
The ankle joint pain caused by injuries, wear and tear, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing arthritis, nerve compression, and tarsal tunnel syndrome and rarely by infections. These problems are often addressed with the help of pain relieving medications, ankle joint exercises and ankle surgery.
The ankle exercises have been proved as a great healing method to reduce the pain, stiffness and swelling in the ankle joint.
Managing Ankle Joint Pain
Living with ankle pain is difficult. The person finds difficulty to manage day-to-day activities due to lack of mobility.
Here are a few techniques for managing ankle joint pain. They are:
- Wear the right kind of comfortable shoes for different purposes
- Wear ankle guards and insert able insoles
- Ask for ankle exercises to the doctor
It is advisable to seek immediate medical attention in the case of ankle joint problems which restrict the person from doing the everyday activities. The doctor will suggest the right method of treatment for the condition.
