Palindromic arthritis is also known as Palindromic rheumatoid arthritis. It is the condition in which the episodes of pain, warmth, swelling and stiffness in the joints occurs at frequent intervals. This conditions involves two – three joints in which pain occurs at frequent intervals.
Palindromic arthritis is characterized by periarticular or articular pain often followed by redness. The important thing to note about this arthritis is that the pain do not lasts for more than two – three days. Although the pain can be severe but it rarely last for a longer time and returns with no sequel order.
Symptoms Of Palindromic Arthritis
The symptoms of palindromic arthritis can be summarized in the following points:
- Episodic articular or periarticular pain.
- Joints of fingers and knees are normally affected.
- Intense pain may be there but it do not last for many days
- Attacks of pain ends as early as they begin.
- This kind of pain forms a specific pattern in their recurrence which can be noted easily.
- The major difference in between rheumatoid arthritis and palindromic arthritis is that this type of arthritis do not lead to permanent joint damage.
Treatment Of Palindromic Arthritis:
Before treating Palindromic arthritis it is necessary to identify it. As both rheumatoid arthritis and palindromic arthritis are confusing. So consult a practitioner to rectify. Although, palindromic arthritis affects more than one joint, its attacks are frequent but not permanent, subcutaneous nodules develops in the affected areas and fever accompanied by the joint pain.
The treatment involves anti – inflammatories like meloxicam, nabumetone and piroxicam. Oxycontin and vicodin can also be taken.
