The Psoriasis which occurs in the folds of the skin under breasts, under the arms, in the groin and takes a moist red appearance is generally termed as inverse psoriasis. It is often confused with candidiasis.
The patches of inverse psoriasis are usually deep red in color and glittering without any scale. These are soft and smooth patches which are found different from the other psoriasis patches.
Common Places For Inverse Psoriasis:
Some of the places where psoriasis can commonly occur are:
- Crease between the buttocks
- Behind the ears
- Below the breast
- Groin
- Armpits
Inverse psoriasis occurs in tender places and can be troublesome for overweight person or those with deep skin folds.
Causes Of Inverse Psoriasis:
Some of the common causes of inverse psoriasis are:
- Tight fitting clothes if worn for long hours they can rub the skin especially in the soft areas. This continuous rubbing could result in inverse psoriasis.
- Use of contraceptive sheaths, caps, spermicides can also result in inverse psoriasis.
- Exchange of the same sanitary towels among many persons could result in disease formation.
- Use of harsh toilet paper can also result inverse psoriasis.
- Sexual Intercourse can also result in formation of psoriasis of groin. This is because if one of the partners would suffer from the disease the chances are there that it might be transmitted to the other. That is why sexual intercourse is considered as the main cause of disease transfer.
- Obesity has been considered as one of the reasons for psoriasis. Although the relation between the two is not yet known.
