People suffering from psoriatic arthritis often experience joint stiffness, inflammation and reduced range of motion. For temporary relief psoriatic arthritis patients are generally recommended heat and cold therapy. The thumb rule for heat and cold therapy for psoriatic arthritis is to alternately apply moist heat and cold on the affected joints.

The application of moist heat relieves muscle tension and enhances blood circulation. Whereas application of cold decreases inflammation, soreness, swelling and joint pain. But in case the affected joint is tender and swollen then heat and cold treatment should be avoided. When heat and cold therapy should be avoided can be best decided by patient themselves.
