In the previous article, 4 rheumatoid arthritis related myths were discussed. This is a continuation of the previous article as we will try to unveil truth of few more RA related myths.

Myth 5: Rheumatoid arthritic person can’t work.
The truth is rheumatoid arthritis is not a form of disability but person experiences slight difficulty in performing activity. Hence to ease of the difficulty changes in the nature of work and habits is required.

Myth 6: Since the rheumatoid arthritis treatment can be toxic hence it is better to start treatment once the disease progresses.
This myth should be considered as one of the most dangerous as the delay in treatment might cause irreparable damages. Early diagnosis and treatment of RA protects your joints from damage and disability. It is true that rheumatoid arthritis treatment do have side effects. But the damage caused by side-effects is much less as compared to the damage caused by untreated RA.

Myth 7: Risk of developing cancer is higher in people suffering from RA.
The fact is people suffering from RA are at a higher risk of developing blood cancer or lymphoma but the overall risk of developing any form of cancer is low. Due to unknown causes the risk of blood cancer is double among people affected by RA but research studies show that only minority of people with RA develop lymphoma.

Myth 8: Pain and stiff joints associated to RA needs more bed rest.
But the fact is people affected by RA need to do regular exercise and stretching. Constant mobility and movement provides strength and stability to the joint muscles. Besides strength and stability regular exercise helps in maintaining proper weight. People suffering from RA should make it a point to do at least stretching exercise and low-impact aerobic exercises. These exercises are helpful in proper maintenance of your joints health.
