According to latest statistic report 1% of world population is affected by Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Even being one of the common but severe joint disorder, still there are many myths about rheumatoid arthritis prevalent among people. This article is an attempt to clear some of the most common myths about RA.

Myth 1: Rheumatoid arthritis is similar to osteoarthritis or regular arthritis.
The fact is that RA is not similar to osteoarthritis or regular arthritis. Osteoarthritis is mainly caused due to wear and tear of aging joints and affects elderly people. Whereas RA is a progressive and chronic autoimmune disorder, bodily response attacking own tissues and joints.

Myth 2: Rheumatoid arthritis is an old age disorder.
On the contrary, it is seen that people between age group of 30 to 55 years are mainly affected by RA. As the age progresses RA becomes severe but it can even affect teenagers.

Myth 3: Rheumatoid arthritis is not a serious disorder.
The fact is, if left untreated or inadequately treated can cause serious damage to your health and might lead to a dependent life. As soon as you get to know that you are suffering from RA, don’t delay or skip your appointments with physician. Regular check-up and treatment is necessary to protect joints from further damage.

Myth 4: At the end Rheumatoid arthritis makes you wheelchair dependent.
The truth is that effect of RA varies from person to person and it is observed that most of the people live independent life. According to a latest study 94% of people suffering from RA continue to perform their day-to-day activities independently.
