Arthritic knee pain is one of the common problems faced by people across the world. The conventional treatment mainly includes pain killers, physiotherapy, knee injections and knee replacement surgery. There are many alternative methods for curing and relieving arthritis knee pain. Here is an addition in the list of alternative therapies for arthritis.
According to a recent study ginger is highly effective in relieving arthritis pain. The research study was conducted by University of Miami Medical School and it was conducted under the guidance of rheumatologist professor Ray Altman. According to the professor high concentration of the root extract can alleviate arthritis pain most of the people.
How was the research conducted?
The research was conducted on 250 people suffering from osteoarthritis experiencing mild to severe pain. The group was divided into 2 groups. For 6 weeks one group was asked to take 255 milligram of dietary supplement twice a day whereas the other group was given a placebo.
By the end of the research 2/3rd of the people on ginger supplement reported significant relief from arthritis pain. The percentage of people relieved from pain was more as compared to people on placebo. The group on ginger supplement also reported marked improvement in their level of pain. Professor Altman said that: “the effect is similar to that seen with trials using conventional drugs.”
Till now osteoarthritis and other types of arthritis is mainly treated with the help of pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs. This latest research study could be considered to be a break-through in the arthritis treatment options. Though it is still under trial stage and the side effect of high dose of ginger is still not known. The research study is published in Arthritis and Rheumatism Journal.
