A daily intake of cod liver oil in the form of capsules or liquid can ease rheumatoid arthritis pain reducing the number of painkillers drugs needed to ease the pain, reports a recent UK study, published in journal ‘Rheumatology.’ Source…
The study was conducted at the Dundee University, Scotland. It showed that intake of 10grams of cod liver oil a day can reduce the necessity of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) by 30%. Many patients with rheumatoid arthritis take NSAIDs and high doses of these drugs have been linked to adverse side effects such as stomach bleeding, strokes and heart attacks.
According to Prof Jill Belch, lead researcher of the study: “This study offers hope to many rheumatoid arthritis patients for whom cod liver oil supplements can offer a natural pain management treatment without the harmful side-effects associated with the use of anti-inflammatory drugs.
“It reinforces previous research that has shown cod liver oil, and its high content of omega-3 essential fatty acids, to have significant anti-inflammatory properties in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.”
