Appropriate Diet for arthritis is very essential. Eating the right food is necessary as certain food can aggravate the condition . It is therefore very essential that one includes the right nutrients in their diet.
Certain food that is a must include in the diet are:
- Fruits
In particular those high in Vitamin C, like blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, peaches, mango, cantaloupe melon and anti-inflammatory fruits like apples. These fruits add an important nutritious value to your diet
- Vegetables
In particular vegetables high in Vitamin A (beta-carotene) and Vitamin C. Carrots, squash, sweet potato, spinach, kale, collard greens, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts. These vegetables when taken regularly help relieve the severity of the condition.
- Oily Fish
Rich omega-3 essential fatty acids and high in Vitamin E, like salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring, tuna and trout. This yummy sea food will not only tickle your tongue but will also strengthen your immune system.
- Nuts and Seeds
Rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids and high in Vitamin E. Unsalted nuts, like walnuts, brazil nuts and almonds, and seeds like sunflower, linseeds and pumpkin seeds.
- Pulses and Grains
Including lentils, chick peas (garbanzo beans), brown rice, whole wheat bread.
- Anti-Inflammatory Foods
Turmeric, ginger, garlic and apples.
- Milk, cheese and yogurt
Foods to avoid in the arthritis diet: These are foods which have to be avoided at any cost from your diet.
- Red meat (beef, lamb, pork).
- Cow’s milk, cheese and yogurt.
- Brown and white wheat flour, bran. (Do not use any produce where wheat starch, edible starch, cereal binder, cereal filler or cereal protein are listed as ingredients.)
- Dry roasted nuts.
- Sugar and foods containing sugar. Syrup, treacle and honey.
- Coffee, decaffeinated coffee, cocoa, tea, alcohol.
- Salt, pepper, vinegar.
- Butter and margarine – use as little as possible.

- Be aware of the food you eat always.
- Maintain an ideal weight
- Avoid too much of fat and cholesterol
- Avoid too much sugar
- Eat foods with enough starch and fiber
- Avoid too much sodium, it will worsen your condition
- Drink alcohol in moderation. Best avoid it completely.
