Mediterranean Diet may help against Rheumatoid Arthritis

Mediterranean Diet comprises mainly of fruits, vegetables, fish and olive oil. Studies reveal that some components of the healthy Mediterranean Diet is not only good against heart disease but may also be beneficial for people suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis.

A study featured in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, UK researchers organized 130 women with Rheumatoid Arthritis into two groups.

One group learnt in detail about the Mediterranean form of diet and cooking. They brought significant changes in their food habits accordingly. The other group was just given written dietary information only.

Women who made changes in their diet over the next six months reported significant improvement in overall health and relief in pain and morning stiffness.

Mediterranean diet which is rich in healthy fats and is also typically rich in antioxidants, which help shield body cells from damage. This quality of the Mediterranean diet is expected to be beneficial against Rheumatoid Arthritis.
